COOPERATION - Coordination and Bioinorganic Physicochemistry Group

Domestic and International Cooperation

The research conducted by group members are diverse and often interdisciplinary. An appreciable part of the research is carried out in collaboration with scientists from various national and international institutions.

Some of the long-terms collaborations include:

1. Collaboration with research groups from universities in Germany: Initially with the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main (Doc. Rudi van Eldik, Prof. Hartwig Kelm), concerning studies of reaction mechanisms in high-pressure. It also included collaboration with the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Prof. Horst Kisch) on homogeneous photocatalysis and the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Regensburg (Prof. Arnd Vogler) on the physicochemistry of coordination compounds. Subsequently, a long-term collaboration with two groups from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg focused on unconventional methods for studying kinetics and mechanisms of inorganic and bioinorganic reactions (Prof. R. van Eldik) and heterogeneous photocatalysis and wide-bandgap semiconductors (Prof. H. Kisch).

2. Collaboration with research groups from universities in Italy: group of Vincenzo Balzani at the University of Bologna, Professors Orazio and Silvana Traverso at the University of Ferrara, and Professor Michael Arresta at the University of Bari. This collaboration primarily deals with the photochemistry and photophysics of complex, organometallic, and supramolecular compounds.

3. Collaboration with research groups from the University of Coimbra (Portugal) led by Prof. Sebastiano Formosihno, Prof. Luis Arnaut, and Prof. Marietta Perreiro. Research topics in this collaboration encompass the chemistry of macrocyclic compounds, including spectroscopy, catalysis, photochemistry, and photomedicine.

4. Collaboration with research groups from universities in Spain: Led by Professor Manuel Arruebo and Prof. Victor Sebastian at the University of Zaragoza, focusing on nanomaterials and nanotechnology. This cooperation focuses on designing, synthesizing, and characterizing metal nanoparticles, their oxides, and sulfides, as well as hybrid materials based on biopolymers and nanoparticles with potential applications in catalysis, biomedicine, and environmental protection. There is also a long-term collaboration with research groups from the Institute of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry at the University of Barcelona (Prof. Manuel Martinez), covering coordination chemistry, reaction mechanism studies, and physicochemical characterization of organic dyes.

5. Collaboration with French universities and CNRS institutes: Professor Olivier Martin, who has long served as the Director of the CNRS Institute of Organic and Analytical Chemistry in Orleans, as well as a professor at the University of Orleans. Our collaboration with research groups led by Professor Olivier Martin, Professor Isabelle Gillaizeau, and Professor Frank Suzenet, focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new compounds and materials for innovative biomedical strategies, particularly in the deactivation of pathogenic microorganisms and anticancer therapies.We have maintained a longstanding partnership with Professor Claudine Kieda from the CNRS Center for Molecular Biophysics in Orleans, focusing on innovative anticancer strategies and the molecular biology of small molecules, such as nitrogen oxide and dinitrogen oxide. Additionally, our collaboration with Professor Philippe C. Gross and his group from the CNRS Institute of Molecular Chemistry and the University of Lorraine revolves around the synthesis and investigation of new coordination compounds for applications in charge transfer processes.

6. Collaboration with research groups from the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University, led by the late Professor Krystyna Urbanska, Professor Tadeusz Sarna, Professor Martyna Elas, and Professor Leszek Fiedor, has been dedicated to the fields of photobiology and photomedicine.

7. Collaboration with the research groups from the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry "Jerzy Haber" of the Polish Academy of Sciences, led by Prof. Małgorzata Witko and Dr. Hab. Dorota Rutkowska (Prof. IKiFP), focusing on modeling using theoretical methods for the structures and reactivity of coordination compounds.

8. Collaboration with research groups at the Collegium Medicum of Jagiellonian University, including the late Prof. Ryszard Gryglewski, Prof. Piotr Heczko, Prof. Tomasz Brzozowski, Prof. Agata Ptak-Belowska, Prof. Agnieszka Słowik, Prof. Janusz Marcinkiewicz, and Prof. Rafał Olszanecki. This collaboration concerns the biological and medical aspects of research conducted by our group in the fields of coordination chemistry and nanochemistry.

9. Collaboration with research groups from the Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, led by Prof. Irena Nalepa, focusing on the biological and medical aspects of research in the areas of coordination chemistry and nanochemistry conducted by our team.
